Christmas in Hong Kong A Dreamland of Lights and Celebration

Christmas is the most beautiful time of the year. Once the decorations of Halloween start to come down, the bright lights of Christmas go up.

Hong Kong is one of the most wonderful places to be at for Christmas, as there are few places that do Christmas the way Hong Kong does. This is the one time of the year where the entire city is lit up in bright lights and beautiful designs. And the decorations are only getting bigger, brighter and better every year!

Here's what you should be looking forward to this Christmas.

WinterFest by Hong Kong Tourism Board

As the years have passed, WinterFest has become a special attraction in the city. Organised by the Hong Kong Tourism Board, Hong Kong WinterFest runs from November 29, 2018 to January 1, 2019. It features a number of seasonal events, culminating in the grand finale of the New Year’s countdown event on December 31. ‘Shooting Stars’, short bursts of pyrotechnics, are launched over the Central Harbour water at 15-minute intervals from the rooftops of participating buildings during the last one hour of the year 2018.

In addition, enjoy the Hong Kong Pulse 3D Light Show; the Snowy Christmas show at Ngong Ping 360; the fourth edition of the traditional European Carnival; and so much more at malls, the Harbour, the Airport, and all around the city!

Dazzling Displays at Victoria Harbour:

Victoria Harbour, simply put, is theplace to be for Christmas and New Year's Eve. Apart from just dazzling fireworks, you get to witness the spectacle of skyscrapers and buildings with lights dancing up and down them! Buildings across the Harbour are lit with beautiful colours, bringing new life to the city.

Carols by Candlelight Charity Event:

One of the greatest things about Christmas is the spirit of giving back. That's exactly what you can do by enjoying a performance by five Christmas choirs in Matilda International Hospital. Featuring Father Christmas and snowmen, the special night will see all sales proceeds go to the Matilda Children’s Foundation, which is responsible for providing life-changing surgeries for children in need.

There’s no better way to spend the festival than by listening to beautiful carols and helping people in need!

‘The Spirit of Christmas’ by Regent Street:

This year, the Crown Estate brings the world-famous The Spirit of Christmas festive lights, made famous by London’s Regent Street shopping boulevard, to Hong Kong. It's a trademark of London city, where beautifully decorated Spirits or angels are suspended above the famous shopping street. We’re excited to visit Lee Tung Avenue this year to check out the lights! Lee Tung Avenue will also be hosting thematic programmes related to The Spirit of London.

The Nutcracker:

The Nutcracker is a world-famous opera-ballet, suited for audiences of all ages. The Hong Kong Sinfonietta’s rendition is one of the world’s finest!

Venue:Grand Theatre - Hong Kong Cultural Centre, Kowloon

Date & Time:December 14-16, 19-23, and 25-26, at 7:30 pm; December 15-16, 22-23, and 25-26 at 2:30 pm.

Christmas High Tea:
One of the best things to do during Christmas in Hong Kong is to enjoy the fun afternoon teas. Tsim Sha Tsui and Kowloon (West and East) are best known for high tea in Hong Kong. A few great places include Cafe 100, Harbour Plaza 8 Degrees, The Langham, Mandarin Oriental HK (Central), Dr Fern’s Gin Parlour and Café Gray Deluxe, among others.
