Both new and old world variations of Champagne, Chardonnay, and Sauvignon Blanc will be presented to us under the guidance and instruction of James Rowell of Altaya Wines.  To accompany the wines will be a fine selection of seafood canapes provided by Hip Cellars.  The white wines selected to be tasted are:

Pol Roger Brut NV

Established in 1849, this highly regarded producer is still controlled by descendants of the founder. This is an extremely well-done Champagne from equal parts of Pinot Noir, Pinot Meunier and Chardonnay sourced from 30 different crus.

Moulin de Gassac Sauvignon Blanc 2015

From the Languedoc region of south-west France, this Sauvignon Blanc offers expressive aromas of peaches and citrus fruit with great balance and length on the palate.

Alphonse Mellot Sancerre La Moussiere Blanc 2015

Sancerre produces the finest Sauvignon Blanc in the Loire Valley. La Moussiere benefits from a south-facing vineyard on Kimmeridgian limestone, producing a wine of great intensity and complexity.

Billaud Simon Chablis 1er Cru Les Vaillons 2015

Established in 1815 and with a high proportion of old vines, this domain stands out as a quality leader in Chablis. A spicy and intensely floral nose leading to the round and supple middle weight flavours that tighten up on the delicious and lingering finish.

Vincent Girardin Meursault Vieilles Vignes 2014

Vincent Girardin continues to produce a range of alluring wines from his state-of-the-art winery in Meursault. A well-defined bouquet with grapefruit and apple blossom the palate is fresh with crisp acidity.

Bellavista Franciacorta ALMA Brut NV

Mahi Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc 2015

Mahi is the project of Brian Bicknell, who has experience working in Bordeaux, Chile and Eastern Europe as well as New Zealand. This shows more complexity than the typical Marlborough Sauvignon, with a creamy, textural mid-palate and a long finish.

Peter Michael L'Apres-Midi Sauvignon Blanc 2016

Sir Peter Michael had considerable success as a businessman in the field of micro electronics before he established his eponymous winery. This Sauvignon Blanc shows aromas of citrus and tropical fruits with mineral notes on the palate.

Giant Steps Tarraford Chardonnay 2015

The warm days and cool nights at the Tarraford vineyard have produced a classic Yarra Valley Chardonnay. Complex aroma, the palate indicates white peach, grapefruit and creamy cashew, with a driving finish thanks to its natural acidity.

Walter Hansel Chardonnay The North Slope 2013

This winery is situated in the Russian River Valley where the fog which rolls in from the Pacific Ocean tempers the heat of the California sun. It shows notes of pear, honeysuckle and white peach in an elegant, medium-bodied style.
