Join us for a Saturday afternoon hike around the Plover Cove Country Park with Adventure Tour's guide Wouter van Marle.  The ecology and geology of Plover Cove Country Park is exceptionally rich, untouched and varied. There are several  small, mostly abandoned villages, which we will walk through. The hilly, wet terrain is great for growing trees, and the lack of grave sites means the area does not suffer from hillfires.

This tour starts visiting the Bride's Pool and the Mirror Pool waterfalls. Getting to these waterfalls is a bit of a challenge: the route passes through a riverbed, requiring a little scrambling up big rocks and then from the bottom of the Mirror Pool Falls to the Mirror Pool above, is a short but very steep trail.

Next we walk through the nearby village of Wu Kau Tang, passing by the tiny hamlet of Kau Tam Tso, leaving civilisation behind. Once the concreted path ends, and we will continue our walk over a well maintained dirt path, and follow the river up then down a hill to the ruins of Ha Miu Tin, a long abandoned village. We will also visit the Mandarin Duck Pool, one of many potholes in the river.

Continuing along the river are the mangrove marches at Sam A Chung, ending our walk at Sam A Tsuen, a village abandoned where we will stop for a traditional Chinese lunch (at your own expense of around HK$120/per person).

After lunch we head out to the sea to observe the red, sedimentary rocks along the sea shore some formed over 100 million years ago. From here a speed boat will pick us up to take us through the waters of Double Haven with its many islands. We pass by Hung Shek Mun, named so after the totally red rocks here, and round Wong Chuk Kok Tsui.

Our speed boat will take us through the waters of Double Haven with its many islands passing by Hung Shek Mun, the round Wong Chuk Kok Tsui and the famous Devil's Fist.  We will finish our boat tour going through Tolo Channel and Tolo Harbour to Wu Kai Sha pier, which is a short walk to the Ma On Shan MTR station (here you can also catch buses direct to Hong Kong Island).

A fun Saturday outing, starting at:

10:00 am at the Tai Po Market MTR station, then bus to Bride's Pool (please bring your Octopus card).

Then a generally easy hike over paved and dirt footpaths, limited height differences (besides the waterfall area) for 3-hours through ghost villages, mangroves and fields for approximately 6-km.

14:30  Lunch at a local Chinese restaurant (at your own cost)

16:00  Boat through the Tolo Harbour back to our finishing point of Wu Kai Sha pier, & Ma On Shan MTR station.

16:45 Approximate finishing time.

Bring along water to drink along the way, sun screen and a hat if desired.

Wear sturdy hiking shoes (we recommend no sandles or open toed shoes)

Bring along your Octopus for the bus ride and a bit of cash to pay for your lunch.
