6 Habits of Happy People

Many of us spend a large part of our lives unhappy. Happiness is one of life's greatest goals, and it isn’t easy to achieve it. It requires a lot of changing up and reinvention and sometimes even a new approach to life itself. It's the little things that can make a world of difference. Here are six habits that happy people follow consistently:

1) Stay busy:

Overthinking is a problem more common than you think! The more free time you have on your hands, the more time you have to waste in your own head. Keep yourself occupied and busy to distract your mind and become more productive.

2) Get outside your comfort zone:

Getting outside your comfort zone is a lot harder than it seems. We’re usually wrapped in our own bubble of comfort and often refuse to step outside our comfort zone! Being able to step out of it can help you expand your boundaries and understand what you're really capable of. Learn something new, make a new friend, or even just try a new cuisine!

3) Maintain a few close relationships rather than many acquaintanceships:

Emphasis on quality over quantity can never be overstated. Having five close relationships will always beat having 20 acquaintances you aren't very close to! Trust and support from your circle will always hold more value and help encourage you through life.

4) Exercise:

Physical health leads to improved mental health. Regular exercise isn't just about losing weight. It's about feeling better physically, and mentally as well! While it can be a pain to get to the gym, doesn't it feel good once you finish a workout? You’ll never regret getting your sweat on!

5) Don't compare yourself to others:

Most humans suffer from this habit of constantly comparing ourselves to others! Whether it's success at work or home, we look at others before looking at ourselves. Social media, which allows people to share selectively, has only made this more rampant. Looking at our own lives and investing in ourselves is a surefire way to lead to growing happiness.

6) Self-control:

Staying level-headed during times of adversity can be daunting. Toxic environments and constant negativity can trigger negative emotions. Staying level-headed in a messy situation can help you sustain a healthy environment and increase your productivity… and happiness!

It takes will, perseverance and a great deal more to achieve happiness. But ultimately, it's important to remember that happiness comes from within. It's easy to blame outside factors, but the crazy pursuit of happiness always starts with yourself, and nobody else.

This week, the world celebrated International Yoga Day on June 21. So let’s embrace health, composure, peace and joy as we work towards holistic happiness! Have a happy day!
