Vegetarian Food Asia 2019 - Why you need to visit!

When people look at Hong Kong, or really even this side of Asia in general, few imagine that there’s such a heavy vegetarian lifestyle that exists.

It’s assumed by most outsiders that East Asia is inherently non-vegetarian. While there is some truth to it, not many know about the big vegetarian culture that exists in such places.

In fact, in the age of the internet, smartphones and social media, awareness about consumer lifestyles and dietary lifestyles is at an all-time high, making vegetarian food one of the fastest growing food markets in the city.

Perhaps the biggest organization or event promoting the vegetarian and vegan lifestyle is the Vegetarian Food Asia (VFA). Beginning in 2015, this trade exhibition has made it its mission to spread awareness on vegetarian and vegan food products and services in Hong Kong.

2019 will be no different! From February 22 to 24, be witness to an array of events that promote non-animal food alternatives. Hosting over 180 exhibiting companies from across the globe, the exhibition is a few days of non-stop knowledge.

Running concurrently with the VFA will be the LOHAS (Lifestyle Of Health And Sustainability) Expo, where you can witness multiple speakers and experts talking about the vegetarian lifestyle and providing more information on reasons to switch, the pros and cons of the lifestyle and details regarding its growth and marketing.

Also, for the fourth year in a row, there will be the LOHAS Awards, celebrating and recognizing the enterprises that promote and support lifestyles of health and sustainability.

Undeniably, the most exciting and eagerly anticipated event of the expo is the Veg Kitchen, where you can watch and interact with master chefs of the region, as they prepare their signature dishes… while also sharing tips on how to cook and eat healthy!

From Banana Chocolate Cupcakes and Quinoa Energy Balls to Fried Omnipork Stuffed Tofu and Beet and Lotus Root Pancakes, the sheer variety of food will make your mouth water. If you didn’t realize it before, VFA will help you understand that dishes without meat are tasty too!

Hong Kong, being a densely populated city, requires the population to adapt to a more sustainable lifestyle. The Green Workshop hosts a wide variety of ‘DIY’ (Do It Yourself) workshops, where you can learn about sustainability in the most basic things in life - recycling, using organic alternatives in creams, bath bombs, oils, etc.

The event is brought to you by VNU Exhibitions from Hong Kong and Inspire Advertising & Marketing Limited. The VFA and LOHAS Expo have both been leading platforms across Asia in spreading awareness about organic lifestyles and the benefits of vegetarian and vegan lifestyles.

While lifelong non-vegetarians might be reluctant to participate, we suggest you give it a shot. Visit with an open mind. The exhibition isn’t just a group of people preaching the negatives of a non-vegetarian lifestyle, after all. It’s simply promoting the benefits of the alternatives.

It’s three days and a whole world of knowledge. Make the best use of it!

Venue: Hong Kong Convention & Exhibition Centre, Hall 5F & 5G,
